Our Vacation Sept 2013

Our vacation for 2013 took us back to the costal Redwoods, visiting family, going into Oregon, and on the way back home we stayed at Orville’s Feather Falls Casino. It took us 9 nights and days with 1900 miles driven to complete.

We left Sept 20 after Debbie got home from work and drove 270 miles to Greenfield, CA and staying at Yanks RV Resort. This was a brand new resort that only had been open for two weeks. We were some of the first customers to have stayed here. Nice place, friendly staff and nice dog area. Our only issue with this place is the wind. It comes up every day in the afternoon and does not die down till after 9:00pm. Just make sure you don’t leave your awning out.

Saturday morning we woke up to cloudy skies and cooler temps. We had a long drive ahead of us which included driving through the Bay Area. Our destination was Ukiah, CA 250 miles away staying at the Redwood Empire Fairgrounds. We had stayed here back in 2007 and found it to be very adequate for our needs. On our way through the Bay area, we encountered a downpour that was so bad that the fast speed on the wipers could not keep up. The freeway became a traffic jam with us trying to get to the right freeway onramps. We missed one and the freeway we were on lead us over the new Oakland Bay Bridge heading to San Francisco (not what we wanted). We got off the first exit and headed back across the bay to the correct freeway. That cost us about 30 minutes in time. We stopped in Santa Rosa at a Home Depot to use their restrooms and have lunch. What a beautiful area. We had an enjoyable rest of the day driving to Ukiah.

Sunday morning we got up and left Ukiah and headed to Redcrest, CA 120 miles away staying at Ancient Redwoods RV Park. Short day because we wanted to spend time hiking through the Redwoods. Not far from Ukiah is Willits, CA. Small cool town with beautiful greenery all around. Willits is famous for the horse Seabiscuit and is the only city that is allowed to place a sign across US 101.

We got to the RV park in early afternoon, set up and disconnected the trailer and off we went to explore the Avenue of The Giants.

We really enjoyed exploring but we had to be in Crescent City on Monday afternoon, so we headed back to the RV park. We will be back.
Monday morning we left Redcrest for Crescent City, about 125 miles, to visit my Mom and Sister.

Mom's Place, We stayed in the RV in my Mom’s driveway. What a beautiful place. We stayed for a couple of days and left Wednesday morning.

After a nice visit we left Wednesday morning heading to Canyonville, OR 125 miles away and staying at Seven Feathers Casino Resort RV Park. We took HYW 199 to Grants Pass. A beautiful drive going through a tunnel.

Later that evening after we set up camp, we drove to Roseburg to have dinner with Debbie’s sister Cindy and her two granddaughters. We ate a Shari's Restaurant & Pies where we had a great visit with them.  Our original plan was to go see Creator Lake on Thursday Sept 26, but they closed the road earlier in the week for the winter so we just chilled back at the RV park and enjoyed the beautiful scenery around us. This is one of the best RV parks we had visited. Hopefully we will be back one day.

We left Friday morning headed south back into California with reservation in Oroville at the Feather Falls Casino and RV Park about 316 mile day.

We stayed here for only one night. Nice place  and we will be back for a longer stay. We left Saturday morning on our way back to Greenfield and staying again at Yanks RV Resort 277 mile day.

We woke up Sunday morning heading for home. We had a great time just unfortunately we did not have enough time to spend. Only having one week and driving 1900 miles sure does make it go by so fast. Hope you enjoyed reading and seeing the photos. Thanks!

Pismo Coast Village and Morro Bay Car Show May 2013

This past weekend (May 3-5), we went to Pismo Coast Village with our neighbors. There was a brush fire in the area and we left when ash was falling from the sky on us. Look like a light snow but at 90 degrees. When we arrived at Pismo Beach, the temperature was 82. After setting up we all went on a walk on the beach. Did not have my camera or phone with me so didn't take any pictures but it was beautiful. Saturday morning the weather had changed and it was cold and overcast.

We met up with Jeremy Saturday morning at Morro Bay for their annual car show. Lots of cars again and lots of people. We had Roxie with us and our neighbors had their Min-Pin (Daisy). Roxie has gone with us a few times to the car show. She always gets "What a beautiful dog" and lots of petting. Had a great time but wished the weather was warmer.

We came back to the RV park and sat around socializing (snacking) and talking about the cars we had seen. Later that night, Debbie, Jeremy and I went to A.J. Spurs for dinner. After dinner, we dropped Jeremy off down town Pismo where he met his cousin Kyle. We went back to the RV park and sat around the campfire with our neighbors until it was just to cold to stay out.

Sunday we got up and had to start breaking down camp. Jeremy left around 10:00. Got a call from one of our HitchHiker RV friends (Bob and Tricia, "Ourside" on the HH forum) we met at the RV show a few years ago. They were there at the RV park and saw our trailer. Debbie, Roxie and I went over to say "Hi" for about twenty minutes then we had to hit the road. Wind blew us all over the road till we got to Gaviota Pass. Took us about 2:40 minutes to get home. Longer than normal due to a few traffic jams. All in all, we had a great time but way to short. It seemed like we just got there when we started putting stuff away for the trip back home. Until next next time.
